St Andrew’s has connections with individuals and organisations far and wide.
Away Team
Our ‘Away Team’ are people who are connected to this church, but serving God’s kingdom elsewhere. They are called the 'Away Team' because they are doing the same kingdom-building work as us (the ‘Home Team) ... just elsewhere!
Gwen Carlisle is Headteacher of St Andrew’s School in Ascunción, Paraguay. The school, with its Christian foundation and ethos, has proved a strong witness to the gospel for many years. Many students have come to know Christ whilst at the school, and have gone on to serve around Paraguay and beyond. They also have a school in a poorer area of the city, which is proving to be a similar witness within the community. Sue Nagatis is a member of St Andrew's who has moved out to Ascuncion, Paraguay to help teach at the school which Gwen runs. She works in both the main school and the school for the disadvantaged kids as well as helping out at the local church.
Chris and Helen Middleton have been working in Central Asia, where Chris taught English & trained teachers. They have now returned to their native North of England, with their two children Michael and Rachel spending some time in the United Kingdom as they update their training, with the intention to return to where they were working.
Victor and Mary Owuor live in Cape Town, South Africa where Victor lectures at George Whitefield Theological College. They originate from Kenya. Victor and Mary have two children Jesse and Joy whom Mary home schools.
Gabriel and Deborah Kijjambu run the Luwero Project in Uganda. The project runs a school, farm, hospital and dormitories to look after orphaned kids and to bring them up in a Christian environment. The project also runs a church which has been steadily growing and of which Gabriel is the pastor.
Other Partners
Our 'Other Partners' are people who are connected to St Andrew's and whom we support in a number of ways:
Christchurch, Hillcrest, is our partner church in Durban, South Africa. The church has two congregations: one English speaking and the other Zulu speaking. St Andrew's was able to visit the church in August 2006 to help run the kids holiday bible club and is pleased to be able to support the work the Zulu ministry by contributing to an assistant for Goodenough. In 2007 Hillcrest staff team visited Leyland which was a great encouragement to our church.
Alistair Seabrook came to live in Leyland for a year back in 2001/2, living with the Harris family, to get some experience of a different Parish before he went on to train at Oak Hill College for ministry in the Church of England. Whilst at Oak Hill he married Sarah. They moved to Sydney in January 2009 to take up an assistant minister job at Christ Church Gladesville. Alistair's job is to pastor one of the main morning congregations and prepare a team for a church plant in early 2011. Alistair and Sarah have two kids with one on the way.
In terms of overseas Christian outreach & mission organisations, St Andrew’s supports in particular the work of Crosslinks (with whom the Owuors are attached), the Church Mission Society (CMS) (Gwen Carlisle), Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF), the Bible Society, Africa Inland Mission (AIM), and Open Doors (see links page for more)
Closer to home, St Andrew's is part of the Northwest Partnership, a network of gospel-proclaiming churches across the Northwest of England. For more information see the links page.
St Andrew's has a World Mission Task Team which seeks to encourage and support the church and our Away Team in their mission. If you have any ideas or questions about how we can do this better please contact mike.print@standrewsleyland.org.uk
